The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEWR) is working on 6548 complaints about high electricity bills. This was said today by the chairman of the KEWR Plamen Mladenovski during an event on high electricity bills, organized by the ombudsman Velislava Delcheva, BTA reports. We have processed 3707 of them, he announced and specified that some of the signals are self-referred by the commission based on publications on social networks.

The first thing is to check the quantities of electricity purchased from end suppliers to make sure that there are such large increases, explained the chairman of the KEWR. According to him, it was established that consumption in November was lower, and accordingly the bills of citizens and consumers are lower.

However, in December it was colder and a sharp increase in purchased quantities was observed, he added. For individual companies, the amount of electricity purchased in December was between 33 and 47 percent more, Mladenovski explained. In January, we have an additional between 14 and 16 percent higher quantities purchased from the stock market, he added.

The total consumption is increasing between 53 and 68 percent for the various companies - 53 percent for “Electrohold“, and 68 percent for “Energo-Pro“, summarized the chairman of the KEWR. He also said that checks were carried out to see whether prices were applied correctly and invoices were converted correctly. 130 on-site checks were also carried out, during which over 50 electricity meters were removed and sent at the expense of the commission for independent analysis, announced the chairman of the EWRC. Of the commercial metering devices checked, no difference in measurement accuracy was found, he said. There was a problem with only two electricity meters - one was mechanical, the other was related to the date. The software was also checked, Mladenovski pointed out, specifying that again no discrepancies were found.

We are carrying out a detailed check of each case reported in the media, Mladenovski also said. According to him, there was a logical explanation for every high bill.

The general conclusion from the inspections is that 98 percent of the complaints we receive are related to customers who are heated by electricity, Mladenovski announced.

The inspections are continuing, the chairman of the KEWR assured.
