Svetlin Tachev: Showbiz figures are giving additional fuel to new political entities

He explained that the BSP is still trying to "find itself" after the last government, while other entities in this sector are betting on more technocratic statements

In the program “Wake up” on NOVA, political scientist from the sociological agency “Measure” Svetlin Tachev and political scientist Lyubomir Stefanov commented on the official start of the election campaign, the tactics of political leaders and the content of party programs. They analyzed the behavior of the main players and the possibilities for future unifications in parliament.

“The parties have emptied themselves of ideas and slogans due to the series of early elections”, said Svetlin Tachev. He pointed out that a pattern of “slight silencing” is currently being observed among leaders such as Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski. According to Tachev, this tactic aims to avoid alienating the periphery of about 600-700 thousand voters who have yet to decide who to vote for.

“The criticism of Progressive Bulgaria that they say nothing is no longer relevant, since they presented a platform of over 130 pages”, commented Lyubomir Stefanov. He added that the profile of this formation is rather “center-right” and defined it as “a business project at the level of a financial and economic program”.

“There is currently a vacuum in the left-wing political space”, pointed out Svetlin Tachev. He explained that the BSP is still trying “to find itself” after the last administration, while other entities in this sector are betting on more technocratic statements.

“Showbiz figures give additional fuel to the new political entities”, said Svetlin Tachev regarding the presence of athletes and musicians on the lists. He noted that the Bulgarian voter still looks “more at the leader than at the ideas”.

“Judicial reform will probably be the glue that will unite the political entities after the elections”, commented Lyubomir Stefanov. He emphasized that once integration into Western structures is complete, politicians should stop looking at external models and start “putting the state in order from within”.
