NRA: Fuel prices in Bulgaria have risen by up to 37% since the start of the conflict in Iran

The price of diesel at gas stations in Bulgaria has risen by 37 percent since the start of the conflict in the Middle East, and the price of gasoline - by 18.7 percent, according to data published on the website of the National Revenue Agency (NRA), cited by dariknews.bg.

The average price of diesel in our country reached 1.74 euros as of Saturday, April 4, which represents a 37 percent increase compared to February 28, when the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran.

For the same five-week period, the average retail price of A95 gasoline has risen by 18.7 percent - to 1.46 euros per liter, according to NRA data.

The NRA publishes the latest daily prices on its website. average retail prices of fuels, as well as monthly statistical data on the change in prices of diesel and A95 gasoline. For the calculation of average prices, information is taken from fiscal receipts issued for the sale of fuels, which the NRA receives from traders.

On February 28, the average price of A95 gasoline in Bulgaria was 1.23 euros per liter, and of diesel fuel - 1.27 euros per liter.

After the start of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran at the end of February and the subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes against the countries of the region, crude oil prices rose sharply, which led to an increase in fuel prices around the world. Many countries have introduced measures to counter the rising cost of energy.

In Bulgaria, the caretaker government of Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov approved the “Program for compensating individuals for increased fuel prices after the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East on 28.02.2026“.

Thus, end users of A95 gasoline and diesel can benefit from a monthly compensation of 20 euros if the price of a liter of A95 gasoline or diesel reaches and exceeds 1.60 euros for three consecutive days. The average price of diesel fuel registered three consecutive days at the level of 1.60 euros per liter on March 24, with which the measure came into effect.

All individuals who received an average monthly income in 2025 of less than or equal to 652.41 euros, or twice the poverty line for this period, or an average monthly gross income for 2024 of less than or equal to 537.88 euros, or twice the poverty line for 2024, are entitled to the compensation.

The Acting Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Hasan Ademov, stated today that around 50,900 applications have been submitted for the additional compensation of 20 euros for the increase in fuel prices. Additional applications are also expected through the Ministry of E-Government, which will likely bring the final number of applications submitted to over 60,000, Ademov added.
