Kalfin: Iran's strategy is to inflict maximum damage on the entire world

Iran cannot respond directly to the United States, so their strategy is to inflict maximum damage on the entire world. This was commented on in the program “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” on NOVA NEWS by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivaylo Kalfin and Executive Director of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.

According to him, both sides are looking for a way out of the military conflict, but there are many external forces that are interfering and have no interest in stopping it. "Israel and some of the Arab countries are encouraging the United States to continue the war", said Kalfin. "Trump's threat that "an entire civilization will die" went beyond what a president of any country should allow himself," he also believes.

"The opening of the Strait of Hormuz was a result of an agreement by both sides for a ceasefire, after which Israel massively attacked Lebanon once again. The point is that Iran claims that the ceasefire also includes Lebanon and Israel's commitment not to attack Lebanon, while the American side said that there was no such thing, which is why Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz once again," he pointed out.

"Whenever we talk about one conflict, it cannot fail to have an impact on others. Israel bombs Lebanon to destroy “Hezbollah”, which Iran helps and has always helped. Inevitably, the two conflicts are linked. Apparently, Netanyahu finds some kind of window for Israel to solve all its problems in the Middle East. I am skeptical that they will be solved this way. When the attack starts affecting civilians, you leave them no choice but to radicalize," the former foreign minister said.

He said the question is what Israel and Lebanon can agree on. "In Lebanon, the government is weak, precisely because of the influence of Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran. To what extent the government can make a commitment that it will then fulfill, that it will actually destroy Hezbollah's bases in Lebanon, is questionable to me, but dialogue is a much better solution than sending bombs," Kalfin said.

He also said that Iran is enriching uranium much more than it needs to produce electricity. "Obviously, Iran is pursuing a nuclear bomb and the world should stop it," he said, adding that Iran must abandon its missile program. "It is largely related to Iran's ability to reach more distant goals, so there is a reason to limit or at least put under control Iran's ability to affect countries distant from it", he said.

Ivaylo Kalfin also commented on the elections in Hungary. "16 years in power is a lot. In my opinion, it is healthy for a country to have a change in government more often. Power brings fatigue, getting stuck in ruts and corruption scandals. There must be a great mobilization of voters there to remove Orban from power," he also pointed out.
