Dechev: Act without compromise against every perpetrator of an electoral crime

He emphasized that the actions of the police must be aimed solely at complying with the law, regardless of whether the perpetrators are representatives of the local government, politicians or others

Act absolutely without compromise against every perpetrator of an electoral crime. This was stated by the acting Minister of Interior Emil Dechev to the management and employees of the Sofia Directorate of Interior Affairs (SDVR) and the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior – Sofia. The leadership of the Ministry of Interior held working meetings with the directors and staff of the two structures in connection with the preparations for the upcoming elections and the measures taken to guarantee a fair and lawful vote, the Ministry of Interior announced on Facebook.

The meetings were also attended by Deputy Ministers Kaloyan Kaloyanov and Kaloyan Miltenov, as well as the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Chief Commissioner Georgi Kandev.

Minister Dechev emphasized that the government and the Ministry of Interior do not support a specific political force and do not have favorites in the elections. He pointed out that the actions of the police should be aimed solely at compliance with the law, regardless of whether the perpetrators are representatives of local authorities, political figures or others.

During the meetings, data on the work of the Ministry of Interior structures five days before the elections were also presented. On the territory of the SDVR, 120 signals for election violations were received, compared to 15 for the previous vote in 2024, 48 pre-trial proceedings were initiated (compared to 13 before), 44 people were detained, and 304 warning protocols were issued (compared to 98 before).

In the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Sofia, 52 signals were registered, compared to nine for the elections in 2024, nine pre-trial proceedings were initiated (compared to none before), nine people were detained, and 327 warning protocols were drawn up (compared to 21 in 2024).

Chief Commissioner Kandev noted that the increased number of signals is an indicator of growing public trust and expectations for the work of the police. In his words, the reported results are the result of significant work by the employees, and citizens expect concrete results in combating election violations.
