The Head of State Rumen Radev will meet this afternoon with representatives of the Council of Rectors of Higher Schools in the Republic of Bulgaria regarding the expressed dissatisfaction and the declared readiness for protests in the higher education sector. Before that, the rectors are expected to talk with the acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, reports BNT.
Yesterday, the academic community announced that on May 20, all Bulgarian state universities and some private higher education institutions will not open their doors as a sign of protest.
The rectors point out that over the past three years, the funds from the gross domestic product intended for financing Bulgarian universities have drastically decreased. At the same time, the salaries of lecturers, assistants, docents and professors are humiliatingly low and non-competitive compared to those of persons occupying positions requiring less high educational and intellectual qualifications.
