PR expert: Bulgarian society does not hold politicians accountable

This theater we are watching looks like some kind of scenography in which everyone plays their part, with the ultimate goal of getting out of ruling

C the theater of politics, the mentality does not change. It is also a matter of political culture in the relevant political structures. The voter is in the role of “the brave tailor” – seven times he will measure before he chooses. It is good for politicians to get an education and therapy. Psychologist Dr. Plamen Dimitrov commented on this.

„Since 2020, the hostility that fuels polarization in societies is a problem not only in Bulgaria, but also on a global level. If for 3-4 years politicians have generated their success, whatever it is, how can we expect these people to reverse this thinking and speaking of hostility which is already their established pattern. The more important question is what they need to do to be able to agree, but whether they want to agree. This theater that we are observing looks like a kind of scenography in which everyone plays his role, with the ultimate goal of getting out of ruling,” said PR expert Pepi Dimitrova.

According to Dr. Dimitrov, civil society is what creates dialogue. “It provides reminders of the priorities expected of key social groups. Many of them have unresolved problems for years. Dialogue is what will restore the tools for multi-party engagement with priorities given by society. Where are the meetings with the public”, he explained.

„There is no real wave of civil reaction. A society that did not demand responsibility from any minister for a third 30 years, during which not a single helicopter or plane was bought to save us. Bulgarians do not seek responsibility from politicians, Dimitrova pointed out.

According to the psychologist, the culture of “selfishness” has been inculcated in Bulgarian society for decades, and this leads to the fragmentation of society. “People who should unite do not achieve it, because trust is at its lowest point”, Dr. Dimitrov also said.
