The director of the Main Directorate “Border Police” Ch. Commissioner Anton Zlatanov and Frontex Executive Director Hans Leitens will give a briefing today. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior and specified that the executive director of Frontex is in our country at the invitation of the Minister of the Interior, BTA reported.

The agency recalls that yesterday the Ministry of the Interior informed that the Acting Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov and Hans Leitens, Executive Director of the EU Border and Coast Guard Agency, had a conversation. During the meeting, Kalin Stoyanov thanked Hans Leytens for the support provided to Bulgaria over the years for the protection of one of the most vulnerable external borders of the EU. The two emphasized that joint actions have led to a significant reduction in migration pressure over the past year, which is also reported by European partners. Since the beginning of this year, the presence of employees from the Frontex Permanent Corps on the Bulgarian-Turkish and Bulgarian-Serbian borders has been increased.

Readiness was expressed for joint actions to continue, including both support for border security and assistance in the return of illegally staying third-country nationals. Bulgaria is one of the member states that most actively use the Frontex Reintegration Program.

An emphasis in the talks was also the implementation of the complex of joint measures in the field of respect for fundamental rights, noted during the visit to Sofia last week of the head of the Office for Fundamental Rights of Frontex, Jonas Grimheden, the Ministry of the Interior indicated. Last week, the ministry announced that the focus of the conversation between the two was the fact that Bulgaria strictly applies European and international legislation in the field of respect for fundamental rights.
