A meeting between representatives of regional and European institutions was held in Pleven in order to outline the main priorities for the economic development of the region.
Among the main participants were Stefan Burjev, leader of the list of the BSP-United Left, Iliyan Yonchev, second in the list, Tsvetelina Penkova, member of the European Parliament, vice-chairman of the Committee on Industry, research and energy, the mayor of Nikopol Municipality – Emil Tsekov, the mayor of Levski Municipality – Lyubka Aleksandrova, presented to the local authorities, public figures, prominent representatives of branch organizations. The commitments made by the participants highlighted the need for serious investments in the region and the future of energy development in the area.
According to Stefan Burjev, the need for specific decisions and policies to guarantee social justice and economic stability is urgent. “In order to achieve real and sustainable progress in the region, it is necessary to work together and purposefully for the future of Bulgarian agriculture, the restoration of quality education, easy access to health care and decent pay for work.“, Stefan Burjev concluded.
The main focus of the discussions was the future of the Belene NPP, which Penkova defined as key to the energy security of Bulgaria and Europe. She emphasized that the completion of the project is not just a strategic necessity, but also a symbol of national dignity. “We will not give up the “Belene“ and the EU supports us in this. Its completion will establish Bulgaria as a leader in nuclear energy not only in the Balkans, but also in Europe”, said Penkova.
We remind you that during the previous mandate of the European Parliament, Tsvetelina Penkova managed to achieve important things, guaranteeing the future of nuclear energy in the EU and Bulgaria.
„I believe that the “Belene” it must be completed with national and European support, as it is the key to stability, energy independence and new economic opportunities," added Penkova. She emphasizes that the successful implementation of the project will ensure low electricity prices for Bulgarian households and industry, will create new jobs and stimulate economic growth.
