Iliyana Kostadinova claims that she gave birth to her third child alone in a bed in the Kyustendil hospital, without the presence of a medical team. The 29-year-old woman spoke about her birth at a press conference at the BTA National Press Club in Kyustendil.

On January 2, my waters broke and after consulting with my doctor at around 6:00 p.m. I was admitted to the hospital. "The gynecologist told me that the third birth could happen very quickly," explained Kostadinova. She was admitted to the hospital and examined, but was also assured that the birth would most likely occur the next day.

At 1:00 a.m. the pain started and I called the nurse because the contractions were 15 minutes apart, the woman said. However, it was explained to her that the doctor could not examine her that often.

"Around 3:20 a.m. I felt the baby being born and I went down the corridor to look for the doctor. The nurse came to me and told me to go back to bed. "So the baby was born in bed, alone, without the presence of the medical team," she said.

After she was examined after the birth, it was found that everything was fine. However, the pain continued for two days later, and after a new examination it was found that the woman had not been cleansed of the placenta. Anesthesia and curettage were required.

The victim has filed complaints with the "Medical Supervision", the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) and the Regional Health Insurance Fund, but there has been no response from them yet.

Iliyana Kostadinova and her family are adamant that they will sue the health facility. The press conference was also attended by Daniel Ralchev – the father of a six-year-old child, whose admission was denied at the local hospital at the end of last year. The man claimed that he sought help because of the alarming condition of his child, who was suffering from severe abdominal pain and vomiting, but the team on duty explained to him that they could not admit him and redirected the family to a hospital in Dupnitsa.

The man is also suing the health facility and is adamant that if he receives compensation, he will donate it to help a sick child from the city, for whom a fundraising campaign is underway.
