US paratrooper dies in Hungary

The 24-year-old soldier was preparing for an upcoming military exercise

A US soldier has died while preparing for an upcoming military exercise, reports “CBS News“, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the US Armed Forces.

The victim is Aaron Cox, 24, of Mabank, Texas. He was part of the US 101st Airborne Division. He died as a result of an accident on June 5 during preparations for the “Saber Guardian 25“ exercise not far from the “Croft,“ base in Hungary, division commanders reported. Cox suffered fatal injuries during a crash involving military equipment. The case is under investigation.

Cox joined the army in 2021 and this is his second mission abroad. He previously served a mission in Poland in 2022.

In March, four American soldiers died in Lithuania after they became lost while performing a mission to repair and tow an immobilized tactical vehicle. The servicemen were on an exercise at the huge “General Silvestras Zhukauskas“ training ground in the city of Pabrade. The four servicemen's combat vehicle ended up in a peat bog, from where it was pulled out a week later.
