Lidiya Shuleva: The euro helps incomes grow because it opens the border for new investments

We must use the entry into the eurozone wisely. One of the most important goals of Bulgaria is to improve education in such a direction that will give us the opportunity for highly qualified work, which will also lead to an increase in incomes

There are parties whose doctrine is based on Bulgaria's orientation towards Eurasia - it is normal for them to use all the tools in this direction, to spread all kinds of rumors to scare people and attract supporters to themselves. However, the data from the latest sociological survey show that apparently Bulgarians have begun to understand who is telling them what and what goals they are pursuing. This was said in the program "Face to Face" on BTV by former Deputy Prime Minister Lidiya Shuleva in connection with Bulgaria's expected entry into the eurozone on January 1, 2026.

There is a lot of speculation about the terms "poor" and "rich". If we look back at the period of 20 years, we have seen a three-fold increase in income and gross domestic product. We are now almost at 70% of the average European income. The problem is that our economy has low added value and uses low-skilled labor. The solution is for our economy to focus on highly skilled production - then incomes will be higher, she said.

The euro definitely helps incomes grow because it opens the border for new investments. All the complaints about the lack of a stable currency system will be gone. Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria will grow, but we must attract highly skilled production so that wages can grow, Shuleva pointed out.

We must use entry into the eurozone wisely. One of Bulgaria's most important goals is to increase education in such a direction that will give us the opportunity for highly skilled labor, which will also lead to an increase in incomes. No other way has been invented to the so-called richer state, the former Deputy Prime Minister noted.

Lidiya Shuleva, who is also a former Minister of Social Affairs, also commented on the case in connection with the discovered illegal homes for the elderly.

The license of the home in Yagoda was revoked 7 years ago. The institutions cannot turn a blind eye for 7 years. All these homes operate without a license, there is no check on whether there is a humane attitude towards people. It is high time the institutions took action and did their job. Such homes must be closed, she emphasized.

As long as we have pseudo-control bodies, this will continue to happen. There can be no compromise to such perversions. The people who did this must bear the consequences, Shuleva categorically stated.
