The General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) reports a record increase in drug seizures in the first five months of 2025 - the quantities are three times more than in all of 2024. This was written on Facebook by the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Mitov, quoted by dariknews.bg.
The results show an increase of 168% in cocaine, 346% in marijuana, 123.4% in cannabis, 884% in precursors, 449% in methamphetamine and 72.7% in amphetamine, he added.
According to him, specialized police operations also recorded an increase - 36 so far, compared to 26 for the same period last year. "Since the beginning of 2025, the Directorate of Organized Crime has already neutralized 12 organized crime groups – twice as many as in the same period in 2024", the publication also says.
The investigations also show the worrying trend of children and young people being involved in drug distribution, points out Minister Daniel Mitov. Therefore, the Ministry of Interior and law enforcement agencies call on everyone – both parents and the public, to be vigilant and monitor the behavior of their children.
Daniel Mitov also points out that the Ministry of Interior and the cabinet “Zhelyazkov“ have declared an uncompromising war on drug trafficking and production, on the distribution of cannabis vapes and nitrous oxide. The General Directorate “National Police“ (GDNP), the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior worked in full synchrony, like a well-oiled machine, and the results of this fight against drugs are truly impressive, says the Minister of Interior in his publication.
