The people in the home in Pomorie were in a serious condition. These are not homes, but illegal places where elderly people reside, which is extremely unacceptable. There are 25 people in this home near Pomorie. This was stated by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov in the program “Face to Face” on BTV.
We are conducting daily checks, he specified.
People got the feeling that there is a state and that someone wants to solve this issue. We are receiving signals. This is a problem that has been going on for years. Everyone has turned a blind eye and no one has wanted to show it in public. It is easier to pretend that there is no such problem than to show it, the minister specified.
According to him, the people removed are placed in regular homes for the elderly, in hospices or in hospitals. “So far, we have removed over 300 people. The big problem is that of the people removed from the first five homes, which we discovered and removed 230 people, only 38 were sought out by children and relatives, which is 17%. This is the moral value of everything we do. I strongly hope that the way of thinking will change. In nearly a month of inspections, 12 illegal homes have been closed”, revealed the social minister.
According to him, the decline is brutal. “So far, the fines are 7,000 leva, which is why we are making legislative changes. We propose that this activity be included in the Criminal Code and we propose that the punishment be up to 5 years, we also sharply increase the financial sanctions – from 25,000 to 30,000 leva”, said Borislav Gutsanov.
