The fight against corruption in Bulgaria seems perverted, said Tatyana Doncheva, chairwoman of "Movement 21", in the morning block of bTV. Her statement was made in connection with the current arrests of the mayor of Varna Blagomir Kotsev and the deputy mayor of Sofia Municipality Nikola Barbutov.
"The abuse of the judicial system, the making of false cases, the use of false evidence is not new, but for at least 20 years," the lawyer was categorical.
According to Doncheva, this practice has existed since the time of the specialized court and has its materialization in the cases, protocols and actions of this court. She gave a specific example of the municipality of Galabovo, where GERB had fought with the mayor in the past, and then, according to her, they "broke him and he became an obedient pet of Peevski and Kovachki".
"Overcoming corruption is not done by dividing the complexes into summer recreation areas and prison areas, fencing them off with barbed wire, because we don't have enough detention centers and putting corrupt people there," explained the chairman of "Movement 21".
According to her, a change in the system and technology itself is necessary, as well as a personal example from the highest levels of government. Doncheva believes that what is happening in Varna and Sofia is a message against very high levels of government.
The leader of "Movement 21" stressed that corruption cannot be defeated through symbolic arrests and imprisonment of individuals, but through fundamental changes in the way institutions function.
