An 11-month-old baby died in the intensive care unit of the University Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) - Burgas. The hospital specified to BTA that he was admitted as an emergency on July 19 with a high fever and severe fatigue.
The doctors have taken all necessary actions, but to no avail. The mandatory autopsy in such cases is about to be performed, which will reveal details about the death that occurred, the hospital also commented.
The Ministry of Health has ordered an inspection into the case of the deceased 11-month-old baby, the director of the “Anti-epidemic Control” Directorate at the Regional Health Inspectorate in Burgas, Dr. Miroslava Kiselkova, told BTA. According to her, the official report prepared will also include the opinion of the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision”, whose experts will also participate in the inspection.
It will be checked whether all protocols were followed after the child was admitted to the hospital. All documents on the case will be checked, including the examinations and vaccinations performed before the child was admitted to the medical facility, said Dr. Kiselkova. At this stage, she emphasized, it is too early to state categorically what the reasons that led to the tragedy were.
Kiselkova added that it will take time to prepare the opinion of the specialist who will perform the autopsy. “The legal deadline for this to happen is one month“, she added.
