A 24-year-old man died and a woman was injured early Friday morning after their car hit a moose on the George Parks Highway near the entrance to Denali National Park in the United States, Alaska's News Source reported, quoted by "Focus".

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. near mile marker 235 of the highway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 24-year-old woman from North Macedonia, suffered injuries and was taken to "Fairbanks Memorial" Hospital for treatment.

Park officials said the victims were citizens of Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The National Park Service is working with the Bulgarian Embassy to notify their next of kin.

Park officials said the incident is a reminder of the danger large wild animals pose on Alaskan roads, especially in low-light conditions when animals like moose are more active.

The crash is still under investigation.
