The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into the payment of additional bonuses of over 2.2 million leva to bosses in the "Road Infrastructure" agency, with the money not being distributed among all employees, but only to 174 bosses of various units in the system, reports BNT.

In June, a report was filed with the State Police, which contained data on a crime committed in connection with the additional remuneration paid in the RIA. On July 1, an investigation was assigned to be carried out by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The deadline for completing the inspection is 2 months.

Over 2,270,000 leva in bonuses were distributed to the bosses of the RIA for last year, the “Road Safety Institute“ claims. According to an open letter sent to the media, the additional funds were distributed for “a job well done”. The non-governmental organization claims that the amount of 2,274,654 leva was distributed between the three members of the RIA Board of Directors and the directors of the Agency.

The RIA states that the money was paid to all employees of the RIA, the Regional Road Directorates, the National Toll Directorate and the Institute for Roads and Bridges, and this was done in accordance with the annual attestations of the employees in the relevant structures:

„The additional remuneration of employees in the Central Administration of the „Road Infrastructure“ Agency, the Regional Road Directorates, the Institute for Roads and Bridges and the National Toll Directorate were paid on the basis of Art. 21d, item 1 of the Roads Act and in connection with Art. 107a, para. 14, item 5 of the Labor Code, Art. 67, para. 7, item 5 of the Civil Servant Act, as well as art. 24, para. 1 and para. 2 and art. 25, para. 1 of the Ordinance on the Salaries of Employees in the State Administration. The regulatory framework clearly and precisely regulates their provision and this is valid for all employees in the state administration“.
