Temporary traffic organization introduced in the center of Sofia due to tram track repairs

Work will also be carried out on Hadji Dimitar Street in the heart of the city

Repair of the tram track at the intersection of Blvd. „Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi“ and St. „Graf Ignatiev“ in Sofia will begin today, August 25, BTA reported.

A temporary traffic organization has been established within a week, the press center of the Sofia Municipality announced. The repair is extremely urgent and urgent, the municipal administration indicated and added that it is appropriate to be carried out in the summer period, when traffic in the city usually decreases.

The project is financed by the Sofia Municipality and implemented by „Stolich Elektrotransport“ EAD. A rail curve (75 meters) will be renovated single track). The repair covers only the specific section, as the installation of the new rail elements is possible only from the adjacent track, when the voltage in the contact network is turned off. This does not allow the movement of shuttle trams in the immediate vicinity of the construction and installation work area. No repair of the rail track on the bridge structure on Blvd. “Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi“ is planned, the Sofia Municipality added.

During the repair, a temporary traffic organization will be introduced, which is consistent with ensuring a safe and secure flow of the work process, as well as security in the movement of citizens. Everything possible has been done to organize an alternative bus route. The movement of the tram lines passing through the area is being changed.

According to the current organization, vehicles are not allowed to enter Graf Ignatiev Street. The tram route on Blvd. “Graf Ignatiev“ and the adjacent road surface are not designed for heavy-duty vehicles. This creates a risk of compromising the surface and subsequent defects, the Sofia Municipality specified.

The movement of shuttle trams would be possible only in conditions of a completely safe tram route, isolated from other road users, as well as in the presence of stops in both directions. Otherwise, the requirements of the Road Traffic Act are violated and risks are created for pedestrians, cyclists and road traffic.

The removal and operation of tram cars in the section between “Journalist“ Square and “Vitosha“ Municipal Complex is not a suitable solution for a long period of time, since the section is far from a tram depot, which will seriously complicate technical maintenance, and in the event of an accident - the removal of the locomotives, the Municipality indicated. Providing a larger number of replacement buses is difficult given the technical and personnel capabilities of „Stolichne Autotransit“ at the moment, the municipal administration added.

Tram movements along the routes of tram lines 10, 12, 15 and 18 will be changed.

A temporary traffic organization is being introduced in connection with repairs on „Hadzhi Dimitar“ Str. between „Tsar Shishman“ Str. and „Vasil Levski“ Str., the press center of the Sofia Municipality announced.

From today - August 25, until October 1, 2025, entry, stay and parking of vehicles on „Hadzhi Dimitar“ Str. between „Tsar Shishman“ and Blvd. “Vasil Levski“.

The temporary traffic organization is being introduced in connection with the repair of the sidewalks and road surfaces on Str. “Hadzhi Dimitar“.
