The Parliament will hear Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov on information about a GPS signal problem during the landing of the plane of the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen at Plovdiv Airport. This is the first item on the National Assembly's agenda for today's plenary day.
The hearing was included in the agenda at the suggestion of Atanas Atanasov ("We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria"), who earlier this week demanded the immediate removal of the acting Chairman of the State Agency "National Security" (DANS) Denyo Denev and urgent convening of the Security Council of the Council of Ministers in connection with the "hybrid Russian attack on the plane carrying the EC President".
On August 31, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov visited "Vazovski Masinostroitelni Zavodi" (VMZ) in Sopot. The next day, the British newspaper "Financial Times" reported that alleged Russian interference had led to disruptions in the GPS navigation of the EC President's plane near Plovdiv. Later, the press service of the Council of Ministers confirmed that during the approach for landing of Ursula von der Leyen's plane at Plovdiv airport, the GPS signal had disappeared. The Kremlin denied that Russia was involved in jamming the plane's GPS signal.
The deputies will also discuss today a draft declaration on Bulgaria's position in connection with the EC's proposed mid-term review of cohesion policy. Also on the agenda are procedural rules on the terms and conditions for proposing candidates for a member of the Council for Electronic Media and for election by the National Assembly. The parliament is expected to discuss at second reading amendments to the Law on Maritime Spaces, Inland Waterways and Ports of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as ratifications of international documents to which Bulgaria is a party.
