New shelter for 300 dogs in Vratsa

Снимка: Община Враца

The local government in Vratsa is actively working to open a municipal castration center with a shelter for dogs. The unit is expected to be operational before the start of the winter months in order to provide suitable conditions for housing over 300 animals, writes BNR.

Recently, the private shelter of environmentalist Plamenka Kalinkina in one of the villa areas of Vratsa caused public tension. Residents in the area of "Lilyashka Mogila" protested against the shelter, which houses over 300 dogs and is adjacent to their properties.

In response, the environmentalist, who organizes and finances her own activities, pointed out that she shelters animals that have been abandoned and abused by irresponsible owners.

As a decision, the local government in Vratsa offered municipal land in the "Dzhudzhanski potok" area, which is suitable for this activity. Its purpose was changed by a decision of the Municipal Council. The clearing and preparation of the property has already begun in order to provide appropriate conditions and veterinary care for the dogs.

A castration center will be set up there along with the shelter. The administrative procedures for its separation have already been initiated.

The Municipality of Vratsa plans to move the dogs from the private shelter to the new shelter by the beginning of winter, and to begin castration activities by that time.
