In a matter of hours yesterday, the perpetrator who desecrated the grave of the late Patriarch Neophyte was caught. We urge that the video footage in such cases be provided first to law enforcement and then to the media in order to provide maximum assistance to law enforcement. This was stated by the deputy head of the 1st RU Sofia Commissioner Georgi Gechev during a briefing, reported a Novini.bg reporter.
„For 4-5 hours, the person was detained. The man is 37 years old, unknown to the police until now. The person leads a nomadic lifestyle. The man has visible mental deviations. The materials on the case have been sent to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, he specified.
„ Sufficient materials have been collected on the case. He has been charged. The person is detained for up to 72 hours. In the case, there are no written data or data on the mental state of the person available. A forensic medical examination will be prepared for the perpetrator, explained the spokesman of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office Nikolay Nikolaev.
„The accusation is that the person desecrated the grave of Patriarch Neophyte. For this act, the law stipulates a penalty of up to 3 years of imprisonment or probation and a fine of BGN 5,000 to 10,000, he emphasized.
The perpetrator still refuses to say why he committed the abuse, the SGP spokesperson also said.
