A man barricaded himself in a residential building in the village of Ruptsi, Cherven Bryag municipality. He inflicted stab wounds on two women, the police said.
The incident was reported on June 4. The 62-year-old man, with deteriorating mental health, attacked the women - aged 76 and 73.
Broken household utensils and destroyed property were found. The man refused to comply with a police order and barricaded himself in a kitchen with one of his victims.
To overcome his resistance, a policeman fired shots in a safe direction. The officers were able to enter the premises and take the man out in handcuffs.
The 73-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital in Pleven - her life is not in danger. The perpetrator was transported to a hospital in Pleven - without danger to life.
He was detained for 24 hours and provided with police protection at the hospital. The case is being investigated and the prosecutor's office has been referred.
