EU Commissioner for Defence and Space Fails to Explain How Drone Wall Project Will Be Implemented

Technical expertise needed at this stage, says Andrius Kubilas

EU Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilas failed to explain how the “Drone Wall“ project on NATO's eastern border will be implemented, noting that technical expertise is needed at this stage.

“This depends on our technical experts working with the Ukrainians to understand what needs to be done. As far as I understand, some centers should be created in Ukraine where manufacturers and operators will work; training of personnel is crucial“, he said in an interview with Polish TV channel TVP World.

Furthermore, the European Commissioner did not directly answer the host's question about whether EU citizens trust their leaders on security matters. He said that politicians should “demonstrate openness“ and also increase arms production and investment in the defense sector. Kubilius argued that this was “a practical approach to show the public that defense ministers are doing the right thing“.

The “Drone Wall“ project is a joint initiative of Germany, Poland, Finland and the Baltic states aimed at deploying a multi-layered surveillance system and automated anti-drone defense systems along the border with Russia. The project is currently in the development and prototype selection phase.
