Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned today the "barbaric attack" near a synagogue in Manchester, and the Israeli Foreign Minister accused London of failing to contain rising anti-Semitism in the country, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

"Israel shares the pain of the British Jewish community following the barbaric terrorist attack carried out in Manchester," Netanyahu wrote in an official statement.

He added: "As I warned at the UN, weakness in the face of terrorism only breeds more terrorism. Only strength and unity can defeat it".

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he was "horrified by the murderous attack carried out near the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester on the morning of the holiest day for the Jewish people - Yom Kippur".

"The truth must be clearly stated: the obvious and widespread anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli incitement, as well as calls to support terrorism, have become a widespread phenomenon in the United Kingdom - on the streets of London, in cities and university campuses", Saar wrote on the social network "Ex".

The Foreign Minister added that the British authorities "not only have they failed to take the necessary measures to curb this toxic wave of anti-Semitism, but they are allowing it to continue to flourish", and stressed that Israel expects concrete action from Keir Starmer's government, not just empty words.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir added: "The UK has chosen to host terrorists repeatedly in recent years, to protect and support them. Today the kingdom received a harsh reminder that those who empower terrorism will ultimately become its victims".

Two people were killed and four were seriously injured in the attack this morning outside a synagogue packed with people for Yom Kippur in Manchester. Police said the perpetrator had been killed.

Two suspects have been arrested after the attack, in which a man drove his car into a group of people outside the synagogue, then got out of his car and attacked them with a knife. Police are treating the incident as a terrorist attack, AFP recalls.
