The longest magnetic storm in the current solar cycle has ended; readings have been in the “green zone“ for approximately 17 hours.

“Based on readings from ground-based magnetometers and solar wind measurements, the week-long magnetic storm has ended. A rapid stabilization of the geomagnetic situation has been observed since Friday evening. The main planetary index Kp, which determines the beginning and end of storms, has currently fallen into the “green zone“ and, except for a short period late yesterday, has remained there for approximately 17 hours. “There are no observed factors capable of disrupting its balance“, experts point out

Scientists emphasize that the latest storm was one of the longest in the current 25th solar cycle. In total, the Earth's magnetic field was in a disturbed state for about four days, with an average strength of G1-G2 (G5 - “extremely strong“, G1 - “weak“).

“The Sun is currently experiencing a decline in activity, which practically excludes the possibility of a systematic return of the Earth's magnetic field to a disturbed state, although a small probability of individual strong eruptions and one-time impacts on the Earth remains for another two or three days“, experts concluded.
