US President Donald Trump's speech to Israeli lawmakers in Jerusalem was briefly interrupted by the expulsion of two left-wing lawmakers who called for the recognition of the Palestinian state, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
Trump remarked: "Well, that was effective!", after the custodians in the Israeli parliament quickly escorted the two lawmakers - Ofer Kassif and Ayman Odeh - from the hall. Before being expelled, they were waving sheets of paper with the inscription "Recognize Palestine" written in English.
Ofer Kassif uploaded a photo to the social network "Ex" on the poster he said he "showed Trump in the Knesset".
"A true just peace that will save the two peoples of this land from agony can only be achieved with a complete end to the occupation and the universal recognition of a Palestinian state alongside Israel," added Kassif – one of the few Jewish members of parliament who currently openly advocates for a two-state solution.
"They kicked me out of the Knesset just because I expressed a simple demand that the entire international community agrees on – the need to recognize a Palestinian state," wrote Ayman Odeh in "Ex", also publishing a video of the incident. Ayman Odeh is an Israeli of Palestinian descent and is the leader of the Arab "Hadash" party, to which Ofer Kassif also belongs.
