Donald Trump will discuss the possible supply of "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.
Providing "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine could significantly expand its strike capabilities, allowing it to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, including military bases, logistics centers, airfields and command centers that are currently out of range.
The "Tomahawk" land-attack missile is a long-range cruise missile that is typically launched from the sea by ships and submarines. The precision-guided "Tomahawk" can hit targets from 1,600 km away, even in heavily defended airspace. The missile is 6.1 meters long, has a wingspan of 2.4 meters and weighs about 1,510 kg.
A unit of Raytheon produces the non-nuclear Tomahawk missiles, which can be launched from land or sea. According to Pentagon budget data, the US plans to purchase 57 missiles in 2026. Their average price is about 1.11 million euros. There are also ongoing efforts and millions of dollars in investment to modify and modernize the weapons, including guidance systems.
The US and allied militaries have used the missiles in operational environments, including when the US and British navies launched Tomahawk missiles at Houthi rebel positions in Yemen.
Ukraine currently has several long-range missiles, both domestically produced and supplied by Kiev's allies.
The Ukrainian company Fire Point recently developed the Flamingo missile, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described as his country's most successful weapon. It has a range of over 1,000 miles (1,609 km), and Ukraine announced its first use in August 2025.
Ukraine has developed the Neptune anti-ship missile and introduced it in 2015. Subsequent versions have a range of just over 966 km.
Manufactured by Boeing in the US, the "Harpoon" is an anti-ship missile that uses active radar homing and flies just above the water to evade defenses. It can be launched from ships, submarines, aircraft or shore batteries and has a range of 139 km.
ATACMS - Manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp in the US, the Army Tactical Missile System has a maximum range of up to 306 km depending on the model. It is a solid-fueled, medium-range surface-to-surface tactical ballistic missile, about 4 meters long. ATACMS can be fired from the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) or the M142 Highly Mobile Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
Storm Shadow Missiles - Manufactured by the European MBDA, these cruise missiles have a range of 249 km with a conventional warhead of 449 kg.
