After several hours of debate, MEPs reached an agreement in principle to stop the seasonal time change, BNT reported.
The initiative for this started back in 2019. Then the European Commission launched a legislative procedure to remain one hour ahead year-round.
The Commission's actions come after a survey of 4.6 million European citizens. Nearly 84% of them support the abolition of the time change.
The main obstacle to the implementation of this idea remains the EU Council, which has not yet come up with a common position. MEPs are expected to ask the Council to outline the main obstacles to this.
On 26 October we switch to astronomical time by turning the clocks back one hour.
