Farmers in Greece are protesting over unpaid subsidies and compensation, which will be held throughout the country, BNR reported.
Farmers from Crete are traveling by ferry to Athens to participate in a large protest demonstration, and will be joined by those from other agricultural regions of the country.
The airport in Alexandroupolis is blocked with a human chain and equipment, where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to arrive on site today.
Livestock farmers will also protest because as a result of sheep pox, over 300 thousand animals have been destroyed and have not received compensation.
The island of Crete has threatened that if they do not immediately receive full compensation and aid, will welcome Christmas at all border crossings in the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture has suspended all payments to farmers after an investigation into the theft of millions of euros in European subsidies was launched. The department said it cannot pay out even a single euro until the investigation into the theft is complete.
