Suicides, violence, diseases: Serious increase in non-combat casualties reported in the Ukrainian army

Careless handling of weapons and ammunition is also among the leading reasons for the sad statistics, says military expert Andrey Marochko

A growth in non-combat casualties, including suicides, has been recorded in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces, with some deaths due to chronic diseases, reported Russian military expert Andrey Marochko.

„According to an intelligence source, non-combat casualties in the Ukrainian armed forces have been increasing since the beginning of the fourth quarter of this year. Suicides traditionally lead in percentage terms. Deaths caused by harassment are in second place. Careless handling of weapons and ammunition, and deaths from chronic diseases, are almost equally distributed in third place“, he reported.

The expert noted that against the backdrop of mass mobilization and official military medical examination, the sudden death of adult servicemen outside medical facilities has increased significantly compared to the same period in 2024.

In February 2022, a general mobilization was announced in Ukraine, which has been repeatedly extended. Due to a critical shortage of personnel in the army, military recruiters are intensifying actions in public places and beating detainees, while men of draft age are trying to leave the country by any means, often risking their lives.

At the end of August, the battalion commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Bereza, proposed mobilizing men and women aged 18.
