The Dutch armed forces have used weapons against drones spotted last night over an air base in the southeast of the country, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the defense ministry, BTA specified.
Security forces at the Volkel base, not far from the German border, spotted the drones between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time, the ministry specified.
"Air force personnel used weapons from the ground to shoot down the drones", according to the same source. "The drones withdrew and were not detected".
The Defense Ministry added that it was not known why the drones entered areas where they were not allowed.
The military police have launched an investigation.
