Vucic rejected opposition accusations that Belgrade has spoiled its relations with Moscow

It is wrong and frivolous to romanticize Russian-Serbian relations, said the president of Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic rejected opposition accusations that relations with Russia have deteriorated due to Western sanctions.

„They say that since 1948 we have not had a more difficult situation in our relations with Russia. And I ask these ignorant people: since the October Revolution in 1917, when have we had good relations? Under Khrushchev we had a short period of détente and what was particularly good about that?“, Vucic said in an interview with TV Informer.

He noted that it is „wrong and frivolous“ opposition politicians to romanticize Russian-Serbian relations.

Speaking about his attitude towards Russia, Vučić stressed that he had always respected his “Russian friends“ and their interests.

He recalled that on March 2, 2022, he announced the decision of the National Security Council, according to which Serbia supports four of the 13 points of the UN resolution on Ukraine - those that do not impose sanctions against Russia or do not provide for the confiscation of Russian property in Serbia. According to him, the crisis in Ukraine also affects Serbia, which is under enormous foreign policy pressure.
