The US military has struck a vessel in international waters in the eastern Pacific that was allegedly used by drug cartels, the US Southern Command said.
“Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was traveling on a known drug smuggling route in the eastern Pacific and was being used to traffic drugs“, the command said in a statement, adding that one person was confirmed dead as a result of the strike.
Joint Task Force - Operation Southern Spear“ carried out the strike on December 22 at the direction of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the command said.
