Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was booed at the funeral of right-wing populist Umberto Bossi, who was a staunch supporter of autonomy for the country's northern regions, DPA reported, BTA reported.
Bossi, who co-founded the "Northern League" party, died on Thursday at the age of 84.
During the ceremony in Pontida, northeast of Milan, radical supporters of the "Northern League" - which is part of Meloni's coalition government - chanted "we have a dream in our hearts: to burn the tricolor", referring to the green-white-red flag of Italy.
Bossi gained popularity with his demands for autonomy or even the creation of a separate state independent of Rome in northern Italy, but failed to achieve this goal.
During his political career, he twice served as a minister in the governments of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The current leader of the "Northern League" Matteo Salvini has moved away from the party's initial focus on northern Italy, winning votes in southern regions with his far-right platform.
There were also protests against Bossi at his funeral, with chants of "traitor" heard.
The Northern League, once the strongest party in Italy, is currently polling below 10%, according to opinion polls.
Every September, a major meeting of the Northern League and right-wing populists from across Europe is held in Pontida.
