The tapping of the mobile phone of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto revealed the European pseudo-unity, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.

"This is their calling card: they claim to be allies and have this notorious pseudo-unity, but in reality everyone is spying on each other, eavesdropping, then blackmailing, etc. The credit should be given first of all to its leaders, who have honestly said all these years that they are not following the example of Russia or anyone else, that they are defending the interests of their country, that they are acting in the interests of their people. This is exactly the opposite trend in the Western European community. It is not customary to think about people there; "It is customary there to think about the interests of certain elite groups and the methodology is what I described," the diplomat noted.

We recall that it was previously reported that Ukrainian intelligence services tapped Szijjártó's mobile phone after receiving his number from a Hungarian journalist.

It turned out that this person has direct ties to the leadership of the Hungarian opposition party "Tisza".

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that he had instructed the Hungarian Ministry of Justice to investigate the case.

Hungarian authorities denied that they had passed information to Russia.

The European Commission (EC) expressed concern about the revelations.
