The leader of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania Kelemen Hunor will travel to Budapest at the invitation of the new Prime Minister of Hungary Peter Magyar. This is clear from the official profiles of the two on the social network Facebook. On Monday, they had a telephone conversation. Kelemen Hunor congratulated Peter Magyar on the election victory, although during the campaign he publicly announced that his party supports Viktor Orban, writes BTA.

„The result of the elections in Hungary is not what the vast majority of Hungarians in Transylvania hoped for. We must accept and respect the decision of the majority. It is part of freedom. We respect the will of the voters and we believe that the new majority will approach every Hungarian community with responsibility and respect. To those who are disappointed now, I send a message: we were and can be a point of support in the future. No matter who is in charge of Budapest or Bucharest, our task is the same: to defend the rights of our communities and to build the future of our communities in our homeland,” wrote Kelemen Hunor.

Meanwhile, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Coiu held a telephone conversation with her future counterpart in Hungary, Anita Orbán.

“This was the first official contact with a representative of the future government, an opportunity to share the joy of this historic moment of change. I expressed my admiration for the exemplary mobilization of the Hungarian people and ethnic Hungarians. The election result proved that no matter how much control some politicians have over the systems of power, it is not enough to keep them in power forever,“ wrote Oana Coiu on her official Facebook profile.

She informed that the focus of the conversation was on a new approach to Hungary's foreign policy and closer cooperation with Romania.

“We also examined the regional formats chaired by Romania this year, which we see as key opportunities to strengthen our common perspective in the region,“ she noted.

Oana Coiu has extended an invitation to Anita Orbán to visit Romania.

A day and a half after Viktor Orbán admitted his defeat in the parliamentary elections in Hungary, the leader of the nationalist Alliance for the Unification of Romanians, Gheorghe Simion, congratulated Péter Magyar on his party's victory TISA.

„Congratulations, Peter Magyar. I'm glad you had fair elections – we lack that in Romania. To be clear: I've never danced on the graves of your people, I don't have Zsolt's talent. We're both marathon runners, so a friendly piece of advice: be careful how you take your country's money from Ursula“, Simion wrote in English on his X social media account, referring to the dance of Zsolt Hegedusz – the candidate for Minister of Health in the future Hungarian government.

On Monday, at a press conference organized after his decisive victory over Viktor Orbán, the TISA leader harshly criticized Simion and commented that no Hungarian prime minister could support him.

„But Viktor Orbán did it. He supported Gheorghe Simion and that was a betrayal. "Both in Hungary and in Transylvania," he commented.

During the campaign for the 2025 Romanian presidential election, election leaflets appeared in Transylvania showing the candidate of the nationalist Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR), Gheorghe Simion, together with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Local media recall that the AUR leader has repeatedly praised Viktor Orbán's policies and said that he wants to follow him in many ways.
