The US has warned its European allies of serious delays in deliveries of already contracted US weapons systems and ammunition, the Financial Times reported, citing nine people familiar with the Pentagon's announcement.

According to two sources, negotiations are also underway to redirect deliveries to Asia.

The main reason is the need to replenish US arsenals depleted by ongoing conflicts and to redirect resources to new priority areas.

The warning mainly concerns countries in the Baltic region and Scandinavia, as well as key allies such as Poland and the United Kingdom.

In June 2024, the White House announced a decision to redirect planned deliveries of Patriot and NASAMS missiles to Ukraine, leaving other buyers in the queue for up to 16 months.

Current reports from April 2026 indicate that the escalation of hostilities with Iran has led to a critical depletion of anti-aircraft missile stocks, which necessitates further delays in deliveries to Europe.

The delays mainly affect artillery systems, ammunition and high-tech interceptor missiles purchased through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

European leaders have expressed concerns that these delays are undermining their defense readiness, especially in countries bordering Russia. The situation is forcing some countries to increasingly seriously consider switching to European arms manufacturers to reduce their dependence on American supply chains.
