Former US senator and Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Lieberman died on Wednesday at the age of 82 in New York, after complications from a fall, Reuters reported, citing BTA, citing his family.
"His beloved wife Hadassah and family members were with him when he died. Senator Lieberman's love of God, family and America continued throughout his life in service of the public interest,'' the statement said.
Lieberman was the Democratic vice presidential candidate in the 2000 presidential election, which was won by George W. Bush. Bush's opponent in this election was the Democrat Al Gore.
He failed to compete for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004.
Lieberman was first elected senator in 1988
In 2008, he supported Republican John McCain for president.
In 2016, he supported Hillary Clinton, and in 2020 - Joe Biden.
Lieberman retired from the US Senate in 2013, after four six-year terms.
