Berlin urges German citizens to leave Iran

Authorities say there is a risk of both escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel and arbitrary arrests in the country

Germany has warned its citizens to leave Iran, saying there is a risk of both escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel and arbitrary arrests in the country, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

With the current tensions, especially between Israel and Iran, there is a risk of sudden escalation, a travel warning issued by the German Foreign Ministry on Monday said. Air, land and sea transport routes could be affected, the warning added.

There is a specific risk for German citizens of arbitrary arrests and interrogations, as well as long prison sentences. People with Iranian and German citizenship are at particular risk, the German Foreign Ministry warned.
