17-year-old Nikita Kasap from Wisconsin is accused of intentionally killing his mother Tatiana Kasap (35) and stepfather Donald Meyer (51), as part of a wider plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump and overthrow the government, writes the BBC.

The double murder was uncovered on February 28 after local officials visited the family's home in the village of Waukesha, near Milwaukee, because the teenager had not been to school for two weeks. According to court documents, Mayer died of a gunshot wound to the head and Tatiana Kassap died of multiple gunshot wounds around February 11.

On the same day the bodies were found, Kassap was arrested in Kansas while driving a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas owned by the slain Mayer. A Smith & Wesson .357, four credit cards, valuable jewelry, an open safe and about $14,000 in cash hidden in a Bible were found in the car.

A search warrant revealed that Kassap's phone contained material related to the neo-Nazi group "Order of the Nine Corners", as well as praise for Adolf Hitler. Investigators found anti-Semitic texts and documents in which the suspect described plans to assassinate Trump as part of a political revolution. In them, he expressed beliefs in white supremacy and planned drone and explosive attacks.

The alleged double murder "appears to be an effort to obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary to carry out his plan," investigators wrote.

Court documents allege that the suspect spoke with people in Russia about plans to kill his parents.

Authorities said the teenager paid for a drone and explosives to use in an attack — and had plans to flee to Ukraine.

"He was in contact with other parties about his plan to assassinate the president and overthrow the government of the United States," investigators wrote.

The suspect had a preliminary hearing on April 9. He has not pleaded guilty to the charges.

He is due to appear in arraignment court - where he will be formally charged - on May 7, according to the Waukesha County District Court. He is being held on $1 million (£764,000) bail.
