Russia will not sacrifice its national interests, which are of the highest priority for President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by the spokesman for the Russian head of state Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS, BTA reports.

The statement was made in response to the words of former US President Donald Trump, according to whom Putin is "playing with fire", refusing to engage in ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine.

Peskov expressed gratitude to Trump for his efforts as a potential mediator, but emphasized that there are many sensitive issues that are yet to be discussed, and which cannot be ignored.

„Both the United States and Russia have their own national interests. For our president, they are of paramount importance - these are interests that we cannot give up," the Kremlin spokesman said.

In addition, Peskov commented on the possibility of a meeting between Putin, Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to him, such a meeting could take place only after serious preliminary preparation and diplomatic talks, Reuters reported.
