US President Donald Trump said that trade talks with China in London are "going well".
"China is not easy. But I think we are doing very well", Trump said on Monday when asked about the consultations in London.
He said that the United States "want to open up China".
"This will be a great thing for China and for the rest of the world," the US president stressed.
The United States and China held another round of trade talks in London. According to the Associated Press, the Chinese delegation was led by Vice Premier He Lifeng, and the US side was represented by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
"They discussed tariffs, export restrictions on rare earth elements and advanced technologies that are important to automakers and other industries," the AP said.
China's exports of rare earth elements were expected to be the main topic of the talks. In April, the Chinese government tightened export controls on seven rare earth elements, which led to disruptions in car production in the US and around the world.
Trade talks between the US and China will continue on Tuesday in London at 10:00 a.m. local time.
This was reported by the AP, citing an informed source.
Meanwhile, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Besant commented that the discussions were "productive".
The first round of trade negotiations between the two countries was held in Switzerland on May 10-11, with the parties agreeing to mutual tariff reductions.
