More than a million Russian servicemen have been killed or wounded since the start of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the General Staff in Kiev said, quoted by DPA, BTA reports.

According to the General Staff, 1,000,340 Russian servicemen have been killed in combat or wounded.

According to Kiev, 1,140 Russian servicemen were killed or wounded in 24 hours, thus exceeding the psychologically significant mark of one million.

Ukraine published this information on Russia Day – a national holiday commemorating the founding of the Russian Federation after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

NATO estimates that the number of Russian casualties in April was around 900,000. A senior alliance official put the number of dead at up to 250,000.

Russia does not publish information about its casualties and the Ukrainian information cannot be independently verified, DPA noted. Independent observers say the number of casualties is lower. Both sides use the publication of information about the other's casualties for propaganda purposes.

Last month, independent media reported that more than 108,000 Russian servicemen were killed in the war, citing research into registers and death notices.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently said that more than 46,000 Ukrainian servicemen had been killed.

However, the Internet project UA Losses lists the names of at least 76,010 Ukrainian servicemen killed, citing publicly available sources and information on the Internet. Tens of thousands are unaccounted for.
