Germany has already transferred three Patriot systems to Kiev and is currently negotiating with the United States about the delivery of additional systems and obtaining replacements, the newspaper The Washington Post writes, citing its sources.
US President Donald Trump said on July 14 that Washington had decided to continue transferring weapons and military equipment to Kiev if Europe paid for such deliveries.
As the publication notes, the price of one Patriot can exceed $ 1 billion, and the anti-missile systems - about $ 4 million per unit. “It is as important who will pay as where the systems will come from. Ukraine's backers have been hesitant for months to give up their Patriot systems. U.S. and European officials say that would leave them defenseless and point to a decline in production," the newspaper wrote.
“The latest deal doesn't solve that problem - someone will still have to give up the system - but Trump's decision has revived the talks. A country that donates Patriots, whether from existing stocks or a batch ready for delivery, could get priority or better terms for a replacement,“ the article noted.
As two sources noted, other deliveries could include radars, electronic countermeasures, drone interceptors and artillery.
