The forty-year-old defendant in the case of quadruple murder as a result of deliberate arson in the German city of Solingen was found guilty and sentenced to the maximum penalty of life imprisonment, DPA reported, BTA reported.

In the fire that broke out on March 25, 2024 in a four-story residential building in Solingen, two children, their mother and father, who were Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin, died.

The Wuppertal District Court sentenced the defendant from Solingen to life imprisonment. The court awarded the survivors and the grieving families between 2,000 and 20,000 euros.

On Monday, the prosecutor had asked for the maximum sentence for the man. Several of the plaintiffs in the case agreed with this. The defendant is an unemployed German drug addict. He pleaded guilty to four murders, further arson of apartment buildings and a machete attack on his long-time friend.

In a statement to the court at the end of the case, the defendant Daniel S. said: "With my actions I have caused unimaginable suffering. I am responsible for the fact that the relatives have lost their loved ones. Unfortunately, I cannot turn back time, I can only say that I am sincerely sorry".

Despite the defendant's quick admission of guilt, new details repeatedly came to light during the trial. The police had to conduct a new investigation several times.
