Argentina's opposition Peronist party triumphed in the provincial parliamentary elections in Buenos Aires on Sunday, leaving President Javier Milley's ruling party far behind, interim official data cited by DPA and BTA show.
Center-left candidate Axel Kissilof, governor of Buenos Aires province and a member of Milley's Justicialist (Peronist) party, managed to prevail over Milley's Libertarian Party.
According to interim vote count data, the Peronists won 46.8 percent of the vote in the province, while Milley's party – 33.8 percent with 82.2 percent of ballots counted.
Milley is under increasing pressure due to a corruption scandal and growing concerns about budget spending.
The president acknowledged his party's defeat in the regional elections but confirmed he would stick to his libertarian policies.
“The course will not change, it will double“, Milley said at his coalition's provincial office.
