BYD, which already sells in our country, has laid off 100,000 workers - 1

The Chinese automotive sector, which until recently seemed like an inexhaustible source of new jobs, is going through a painful but strategic metamorphosis. Market leader BYD sent powerful tremors throughout the supply chain after it undertook a drastic restructuring, laying off nearly 100,000 employees. By the end of 2025, the group's army of workers shrank to 870,000 people - a drop of as much as 10%, which clearly shows that the era of indiscriminate growth has ended at the expense of brutal operational efficiency.

The scale is dizzying, but BYD claims that they are not losing ground under their feet. This is not a retreat, but rather a transition to a “sports mode“ of management. In the global electric vehicle scene, the focus is no longer just on how many cars roll off the assembly line, but how smartly the money is spent on their production. Chinese players are aggressively optimizing every yuan to keep their prices rock-bottom without compromising on high-tech content.

The numbers behind this new course are impressive to say the least. Despite the staff reduction, BYD ended 2025 with revenues of a whopping 8,039.6 billion yuan (about 1.123 trillion dollars). The 4.6 million vehicles delivered are proof that the machine is still running at full speed, and the record overseas exports of over 1.05 million units mark a historic psychological peak for the brand.

Of course, belt-tightening comes at a price. Net profit fell 19% to 326.2 billion yuan, squeezed by a fierce price war in the domestic market and astronomical investments in innovation. 634 billion yuan were "burned" for research and development alone. The result? Technological superiority. In March 2026, the new Blade Battery 2.0 debuted with Flash Charging 2.0 technology, which allows the battery to "fill" from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. Almost as long as you can drink coffee at the gas station.

BYD's strategic gaze is now directed far beyond the Great Wall. With an ambitious goal of exporting 1.5 million vehicles this year, 2026, the company is fleeing the saturated domestic market, where seasonal fluctuations and fierce competition are becoming increasingly unpredictable, and is attacking Europe, including Bulgaria.
