Alfa Romeo has said goodbye to one characteristic design element, namely the offset front number plate. From now on, all models will have a centrally located nameplate. The reason for this change is safety, as new EU regulations require central positioning to reduce injury to pedestrians in a collision.
This move was already made with the latest model of the Italians, namely Junior (Milano), with the license plate placed in the middle and in its lower part. The decision mainly affects the European market, where the front plate is mandatory, unlike some states in America.
Although European Union regulations require Alfa Romeo to ditch its signature offset front number plate, design chief Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos isn't worried. "It will allow us to have symmetry anyway, so I'm happy - I'm one of those people who likes the plate in the middle," he admits.
