Half a million kilometers is a pretty serious resource when we talk about a car engine. With such a mileage, you can circle the earth along the equator almost 12.5 times. And to cover this distance without stopping and at a constant speed of 100 km/h, you will need seven months.
But there are such engines. Right now you can go and buy a car with such a durable engine. Naturally, durability will not protect you from all minor damages, but when buying such a car in the secondary market, you can save money by choosing a vehicle with a higher mileage without fear that the engine will soon need to be overhauled.
Korean Hyundai and Kia cars have engines with G4FA and G4FC indexes, which are so durable that they easily drive half a million kilometers. And here we are not talking about units with a large volume and an unacceptable appetite, and we are not talking about diesel engines.
The engines in question are gasoline and have modest volumes of 1.4 and 1.6 liters. In fact, it is the same engine, which differs only in cubic capacity (due to different piston strokes). G4FA and G4FC have long proven their efficiency, reliability and durability working in taxi cars.
Surprisingly, even with aluminum blocks and pistons, these engines can last 500 thousand km. The power of the 1.4-liter unit is 107 hp, and the 1.6 engine has 123 hp. The only condition is to have a calm driving style without sharp starts, urgent and long accelerations. Timely maintenance is also important. Then these engines will hardly break down.
The cons are related to the replacement of the timing chain on these engines, which requires serious disassembly, and the valves must be periodically adjusted, since they do not have hydraulic compensators.
